1 Corinthians 2

1 Corinthians 2 gives us some truth about wisdom.  Paul reminds us again that his complete focus is on “Jesus Christ and Him crucified”.  It is not about himself – but about the Lord and Savior who went to the Cross for you and me.  Paul has his focus set – and it is on Jesus.  He goes on to tell us “my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”.  Paul is not about talk – but sharing God’s wisdom by living it.  He walked the talk.  He showed the power of the Spirit in his life.  Why?  “That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God”.  That is one very different approach from many leaders in the church today.  They tend to focus on themselves and their churches and what they can teach or share.  They write books and create content and bring attention away from Jesus in many cases.  But Paul shows us the way – that we will have our eyes set on Jesus.

He goes on to give us a glimpse of the future:” But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him’”.  God has a great plan for us.  We will not see it completely, and maybe not at all.  But that doesn’t change this promise of scripture.  God has a plan – we can’t even imagine what it is.  He has prepared much for those of us who love Him.  How does that happen?  Because “the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God” lives in us.  God has provided us the Spirit.  God has prepared the path and the way.  God is in control!
