Isaiah 41

Isaiah begins with a review of all that God has done in chapter 41.  God’s got an amazing history.  There is no other like Him.  And he asks this question which validates just how far above us God truly is.  “Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he”.  We sometimes forget that we aren’t on the same playing field as God.  He has created all things.  He alone is worthy of our praise.

His desire is that we learn to walk in obedience and live harmoniously with those in our patch and around the globe.  “Everyone helps his neighbor and says to his brother, “Be strong!” The craftsman strengthens the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer him who strikes the anvil”.  Far too often we create separation from those around us and take the approach that what their situation is isn’t our problem.  But God wants us to live in unity and encourage each other, not just in word, but by coming together to help.

There are times when things seem overwhelming and we can’t carry the load.  But God makes it clear what we should do: “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand….For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand”.  God’s there for us.  He wants to be our God.  The issue is we don’t let Him.  We want to sit on the throne of our lives and push Him to the side.  He stands ready.  He is able.  We merely need to get out of the way.

Why does God even care about us?  Because He created us and loves us.  He wants us to walk in obedience with Him and bless us. Ultimately He will be glorified, but He desires that we let the world know about Him and His goodness: “that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it”.  This is about making God known to the nations.  That’s our purpose on this earth as Christ Follwers.  It isn’t about us getting what we want.  It’s about us letting all the world know who God is and how good His blessing!
