Psalm 94

Psalm 94 begins by talking about the evil and bad people on this planet.  They are arrogant and mistaken believing they can do whatever they want without God’s attention.  “They say, The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive”.  The idea that you can do things that God won’t notice is crazy.  God is not mocked.  He sees all.  He will deal with all.  “He who teaches man knowledge – the Lord – knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath”.  There is no hiding.  There is no secret from God’s knowing.

And you thought your mother had eyes in the back of her head.  God is omniscient and omnipotent.  He sees all and is everywhere all at once.  The psalmist, whom we are unsure of, does understand that being on the receiving end of God’s discipline is a good thing.  “Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law, to give him rest from days of trouble”.  Blessing comes when we learn God’s law and understand His Word and live by it.  Obedience is the key.

God isn’t going to forget His people.  He’s made a covenant with them.  He will be there to pour blessing upon those who call Him Savior and Lord.  “For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it”.  God is faithful.  He will return to those whom call Him King and lead His people.  The result of that will be the blessing of His presence and power in our lives.

The psalmist knows that without God’s power and protection his life would be in shambles.  “If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence….your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up”.  God is the source of help.  He is our rock and ever present help in trouble.  “The Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge”.  God provided the strength, the protection, and the ongoing place of refuge for our psalmist.  He does the same for you and me today!
