Ezekiel 22

Ezekiel 22 has the prophet again hearing directly from the Lord multiple times, but with the same basic message.  You people are evil, and God is going to clean things up.  Destruction awaits, and it is well deserved.  And the prophet is tasked with delivering the reality.  “Will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then declare to her all her abominations”.  Ezekiel is the messenger.  He is to carry the truth of the solemn nature of their plight.  And to tell them why it is happening: “me you have forgotten, declares the Lord God”.

Sin tends to rear its ugly head when we listen to self rather than God.  It happens when we allow our personal agenda to take control, and we push God aside and out of the way.  We lose our way, and fail to hear God and follow what He has already told us through His Word.  We go brain dead and do a host of nasty things.  Ezekiel calls out dozens of very bad things that the people were guilty of in his day.  It is no wonder that God is fed up and taking action.  But you know what?  If we made a list of the sin of our world today, it wouldn’t be all that much different.  Sin is sin whenever it happens.

God’s desire is that we know Him and glorify His name.  And He is focused on making sure that is the case.  “I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it….you shall know that I am the Lord”.  God will keep His word.  He doesn’t waffle and change His mind like we might think.  He is truth, so it doesn’t move or change.  And God has told us that as He removes sin and those guilty of it, He will become known again.  He will move out of the shadows and from the sideline to being the front and center focus.

God desires to find some who are faithful.  He says “I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none”.  All He was looking for was one righteous man.  We see that over and over in scripture.  But he again doesn’t find one here.  Is it different today?  Is there one who can stand in the gap and intercede for our nation?  Are you that person – one who is faithful and worthy of being a man that honors and glorifies God?  That is what we need to pursue.  And with Jesus blood and covering of our sin, we have a chance of being that person.  But we have to pursue it.  We have to live His way!
