Psalm 61

Psalm 61 is a call to God for strength.  “I call to you when my heart is faint”.  Ever feel that way?  Like you just can’t go on?  The psalmist knows what to do when feeling overwhelmed – to call to the Lord?  He should be our source of refuge and strength.  We can cry out to Him.  God is listening.  He hears our prayer.  We just need to reach out and seek His power.

But how do we do that?  What do we ask for?  The psalmist gives us some examples of what to ask for and what to expect:

–       “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

–       you have been my refuge

–       a strong tower against the enemy

–       Let me dwell in your tent forever

–       Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings

–       you, O God, have heard my vows

–       you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name

–       I ever sing praises to your name

–       I perform my vows day after day

God is faithful.  We need to seek His face.  We need to live well day by day.  We have a heritage in Him.

God is filled with “steadfast love and faithfulness”.  That is what we can expect from our Father and Lord.  He is the Rock that is higher than we will ever be.  He is the Rock that will never move or fail to stand.  He is a strong tower we can climb to get above our enemy.  He is our refuge, He is our strength.  We can dwell with Him and take refuge under His wings.  And as God provides us all that, we need to sing praise to His name.  We need to live life for Him.  We need to praise Him from the mountain tops and let the world know of His love and kindness!
