Psalm 40

Psalm 40 teaches us about waiting on the Lord.  The psalmist says “I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry”.  God is there listening and waiting for us to call to Him.  He hears our cry.  He listens to our heart.  “He drew me up….set my feet upon a rock….making my steps secure…..put a new song in my mouth”.  God provides us with a stable place to place our feet.  He is where we can stand.  He will make our steps secure.  He is the source of stability for our life.

How God interacts with us should cause us to sing and share His love.  How He touches our life will impact those in our patch if we allow it.  “Many will see and fear” – our life should be a light that draws others to the truth of God’s love.  But there is more: “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust”.  As we draw near to Him and put our trust in Him we are blessed.  He is our blessing when we put our trust in Him.

God is good to us, all the time.  And He is more than just able.  “Your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told”.  God is awesome beyond words.  Nothing can compare with Him.  He loves us more than we can measure or understand.  It should cause us to loudly proclaim His name.

So what should result from His love?  The psalmist gives us a hint of how we should respond to the God who loves us and has done so much for us:

–       “I desire to do your will

–       I have told the glad news of deliverance

–       I have not restrained my lips

–       I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart

–       I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation

–       I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness

He is worthy of our praise.  He deserves our adoration and worship.  Are you telling the world of God’s love for you?
