Psalm 43

Psalm 43 has the psalmist pretty low.  He is seeking God to protect and defend him.  He is being chased and challenged and needs God to deliver him.  So what is the relationship – God is protector and where the psalmist runs.  “For you are the God in whom I take refuge”.  Where do you run when you need help?  Where do you find refuge?  Is God your source of refuge and strength?

The psalmist asks God to send out “your light and your truth”.  He wants God to be in his life – to lead and guide.  Here is what he asks:

–       “let them lead me

–       let them bring me to your holy hill

–       to your dwelling

God’s truth and light will lead us.  His direction can bring us to Him.  It is how we find His dwelling place.  God’s truth and light brings us to His holy hill.

What happens when God gives us guidance?  The psalmist shows us how to respond.  “Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God”.  When we are walking with God, we want to worship.  We find true joy.  We praise him because the love of God penetrates our heart.  If we want to worship, find joy and praise God – we simply need to approach God’s altar.  We simply need to walk with God.

So how should we look at God?  As a source of hope.  He is the only true hope there is.  “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God”.  Why is God our only hope?  Because He alone is the author of salvation.  He alone can save our soul.  God is the only real deal out there.  He is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Master of the Universe, First, Last, Great I AM.  God is our salvation and our hope – our only hope.  We need to run to Him with praise and accept the salvation He offers us!
