Psalm 129

Psalm 129 describes the psalmist a bit overwhelmed:

–       “Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth

–       The plowers plowed upon my back

–       cut the cords of the wicked

–       May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward

There are those who are out to get rid of the people of God – Israel.  That was then but it is still true today.  Ehemies of God’s people wanted to plow them under.  They wanted to get rid of them.  As much as things change, they stay the same don’t they.

The response is interesting.  The psalmist notes these things:

–       “the Lord is righteous

–       May they be….put to shame and turned backward

–       Let them be like grass….which withers

–       The reaper does not fill his hand

Not drastic action or requests from God.  Kind of a ‘God remove your hand from them’ kind of attitude.  But it goes further and says that those who pass by should not say “The blessing of the Lord be upon you! We bless you in the name of the Lord”.  I get the impression that the withholding of blessing is the biggest part of the ask.  When we fail to be in the middle of God’s plan and receiving His blessing – that is a big deal.  We need to be grateful for God’s blessing and glorify His name for all He does.
