Genesis 36

Genesis 36 shifts the focus from Jacob to Esau.  This chapter is all about Esau and his kids.  It lists the geneology of the family as well as the rulers that were over the land Esau settled.  One thing stands out as the chapter begins: “Esau took his wives from the Canaanites”.   You may recall that Isaac had told Esau not to do that – but in a blatant act of disobeying the wishes of his parents – that is exactly what Esau did.  Esau had a sizeable family and because of that he had to live apart from his brother.  “Their possessions were too great for them to dwell together”.  This chapter ends the story of Esau in scripture.
