Revelation 20

Revelation 20 talks about the ending.  An angel descends from Heaven and grabbed the devil and puts him in his place.  The devil is called: “dragon….snake….devil….satan” and the angel “chains him up for a thousand years”.  No only that, the angel “dumped him in the abyss, slammed it shut and sealed it tight”.  I love how scripture says it: “No more trouble of of him”.  God takes the victory here and locks Satan up for 1000 years.  John continues to talk of his vision where he “saw the souls of those beheaded because of their witness to Jesus and the Word of God, who refused to worship…..take up his mark”.  Those who resist the enemy in the end times will have a tough life, yet they will be glorified in the end as God calls them forth to their new place – ruling with Him for 1000 years.  So would you be one who might be persecuted for your faith in Jesus?  Would anyone even know?  Or are you one who goes along with the crowd, who would worship anything if threatened with death, or would take on the mark of the beast if it meant temporarily saving your skin?  Are you a happy time Christ Follower, or would you stand firm in your faith no matter what the cost?  Thos days are coming sooner than we might think.  We need to be prepared to stand firm, to take on evil and be associated with Jesus.  We should not run because it gets difficult.  We need to stand with Him in our faith.

John then gives us a glimpse of the Great White Throne and the judgment that is coming.  Check out what he says: “I saw all the dead, great and small, standing there – before the Throne”.  No one gets a pass on judgment.  No one is exempt from standing before God and giving an account for their life.  We need to be ready for that day.  There is no opportunity once we are before the judgment seat.  “And the books were opened…..the Book of Life….the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by the way they had lived”.  It is really pretty simple.  When we stand before God we will be judged based on how we lived.  Life matters.  It determines eternity.  It doesn’t get much simpler than that.  No real interpretation needed folks.  We will get what we deserve – what we earn based on how we have lived.  “Every man and woman was judged by the way he or she lived”.  Did you catch that?  Every one of us will be judged based on what we do with the days we are granted here on this earth.  You don’t need a theological degree to understand this.  How we live life today will determine our eternity tomorrow.  It is why we are here – to have the opportunity to come into right relationship with the Father through His Son.  “Anyone whose name was not found inscribed in the Book of Life was hurled into Lake Fire”.  The outcome of not being in the book is not good.  It is rather rough – eternity apart from God – because of the choices we made while living life today.  The good news is we have absolute control of our destiny – our eternity.  No one but us controls that.  We may think it is not fair, but it really is.  We have the opportunity to secure our life with God in heaven – or we can deal with the judgment on our own and find out we missed the mark.  Don’t miss it.  Life matters now.  What you do matters now.  How you respond to God’s love – His gift of Jesus – matters today.  Don’t miss that!
