Psalm 123

Psalm 123 is a very short chapter that gives us a hint on where to look for help.  The Psalmist writes “I look to you….look up to you for help”.  Where do you turn for help?  Who is your source of help when things are rough?  Do you remember that God is “an everpresent help in trouble”?  He is always there, always ready to help us.  He is waiting for us to reach out to Him and to call for His help.  But we need to acknowledge His strength, and make sure we are not relying on our own strength but rather God’s.  He alone can provide.  We need to be “watching and waiting, holding our breath, awaiting your word of mercy”.  God is the source of help.  He is also the God of mercy.

Mercy, God, mercy”. Mercy is when God steps in and doesn’t give us what we should get.  When we are not destroyed for our sin.  When we are not punished for what we have done – for where we have fallen short.  God takes mercy on us because He loves us.  He shows mercy because He is crazy about us.  He knows the number of hairs on our head, and knows all there is to know about us.  But God is ready to pour out His love, His mercy on us.  And that is what we need to be looking to receive as God’s love pours out upon us.  He is a God of mercy and love.  He is waiting for us to seek Him!
