Psalm 121

Psalm 121 gives us a glimpse of David and his relationship with God.  He loved to worship the Father.  He loved to go to God’s house to worship.  How do you view that?  How do you feel when you get up on Sunday morning (or whenever your church worship services are today) and you have the opportunity to go worship the Creator?  Are you excited?  Can you wait to go join others to sing and praise the King?  Sometimes I get the “do I have to” mindset.  I don’t always feel like David did.  “Let’s go to the house of God…my heart leaped for joy”.  Sometimes without the right mindset my heart doesn’t leap or even start.  We have to learn to put off the distractions and focus on what matters – the relationship.  We are blessed to be able to go and worship God.  We are really blessed to be able to come into the presence of the Creator who made “heaven and earth and mountains” – pretty much everything – and worship Him.  It is not a chore, it is an honor and one we should take advantage of every chance we get.  This week as the opportunity presents itself – I challenge you to rush into His house with joy and go to meet Him there.  He is worthy of our praise!

David also points out just how important the relationship with God really is.  “My strength comes from God”.  That pretty much sums it up.  Without God’s touch in our lives, we are trying to deal with things on our own steam and it won’t cut it.  David tells us that “God won’t fall asleep”.  He is on task and in control all the time.  Nothing will slip past Him.  He is “right at your side to protect you”.  We have a God that loves us and is there to protect us as well as give us strength to handle whatever comes our way.  David is very granular in telling us what God’s protection looks like.  Check out what he tells us:

  1. Shielding you
  2. Sheltering you
  3. Guards you
  4. Guards your very life
  5. Guards you when you leave
  6. Guards you when you return
  7. Guards you now
  8. Guards you always

That is pretty much total protection.  From a God who loves us more than we can imagine.  He wants a deep relationship with us.  He wants to pour His love on us.  Are you letting Him?  Do you trust Him?  Are you worshipping Him?  Do you spend time with Him?  God loves us.  Do you love Him back?
