Psalm 19

Psalm 19 begins with the Psalmist recognizing the majesty of God in creation.  “God’s glory is on tour in the skies”.  What an unbelievable world we are able to live in.  God has created and crafted an “exhibit across the horizon”.  His majesty shines for us each day.  Morning and night – we can see Him in all His glory.  God doesn’t have to speak to us.  His “unspoken truth is spoken everywhere”.  He is creating a new day for us each morning.  A chance to begin fresh and start over with Him.  “God’s Word vaults across the skies”.  Do you see it?  Do you stop to recognize just how awesome our God is?  He is the creator and controller of all things.  He is the One who not only made it, but continues to direct it day after day.  We serve a mighty God.

This chapter goes on to describe the wonder of His Word.  I love how it is captured:

  1. “the revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together
  2. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road
  3. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy
  4. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes
  5. God’s reputation….with a lifetime guarantee
  6. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree
  7. God’s Word is better than a diamond
  8. Warns us of danger
  9. Directs us to hidden treasure

Wow – God’s Word is all we need to know how to live folks.  It is revelation, sign, life-map, direction, decision and a whole lot more wrapped up into one Book for us to read and follow.  Without it we can’t truly find our way.  We will wrestle like the psalmist does: “keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work”.  Do you struggle with stupid sins?  Or sin at all?  Let me answer that for you – yes you do.  But God has given us a Book to help us from making those mistakes and falling into sin.  It is still likely to happen because we are human.  But He has a plan for that too – Jesus went to the cross to deal with our “stupid sins” and to wash us clean as snow.  It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t read the Book of Life and follow it’s direction.  God wrote it to you and mean to help reduce how often we fall short.  So get into His Word.  Look up at His skies and marvel at His creation.  He is around us everywhere.  He is alive and on top of the world in everyway.  It is all in His hands.  Are you reading His creation and His Book?  If not – take time today to get started!
