Joshua 1

Joshua 1 brings a new sheriff to the scene.   Joshua has taken over and is preparing the people to enter the Promised Land.  Moses did a good job with the transistion – the chapter begins with “God spoke to Joshua, Moses assistant”.  Doesn’t look like we missed a beat with Moses’ death.  Joshua has stepped up and into leadership and is connected with God.  Moses did a good job preparing him.  And God verifies that when He says” in the same way I was with Moses, I’ll be with you.  I won’t give up on you; I won’t leave you”.  That is pretty comforting isn’t it.  God tells Joshua that He is going to treat him the same was as He treated Moses.  He has the same expectations too – that Joshua “don’t get off track, either left or right”.  But no issue here with a change in leadership.  God is just doing His thing now through a new servant.  God also verifies that when He tells Joshua “You are going to lead this people”.  There is no doubt that the torch has passed and Joshua is God’s man for the job.

Joshua also learns the secret for success as well. “Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed”.  God has made it clear that understanding His direction and then obeying it is the key to success.  It is the roadmap that takes us where God is leading.  And we all need to know what it says and where it leads us.  We have to study and know if we are going to make it to God’s desired destination.  Want the secret to success?  Well He just gave it to us through His instruction to Joshua.  Know it, obey it, live it.  If we do that we will find our way to success.  Are you walking the way Moses and Joshua did with the Lord?  Is He truly the captain of your life?  Now is the time to make sure things are on track with Him!
