One Month to Live – Day 20 – Earthquake

Today we read about building a foundation that lasts.  Earthquakes will come.  Loss will happen.  And more than once unless you are a very unusual person.  No one is exempt.  No one gets a pass on this one.  We focus on dealing with these life rocking events, but ponder what happens when you have one month to live.  You are about to become the earthquake in another person’s life.  How do you deal with that?  The real question is have you built a firm foundation into the lives of those you love so they can deal with the earthquakes in life?  Have you shared with them the one source of stability that will help them overcome when your life ends?

That is one of the things we need to think through.  We need to prepare people for our life ending.  There is the normal stuff to consider.  Writing down all the important information.  Creating a list and checking it twice.  Getting your will up to date (and you really do need to do that).  But what about the investment in others so they can endure the earthquake.  Psalm 50:15 says “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you”.  That is a good reminder to have put into the lives of those you love.  Do they know to deal with the challenges and problems of life?  Do they know there is no “easy button” for dealing with earthquakes in life?   Have you prepared others to hang on to the one source of stability that they can always hang on to?  I know it is a somber thought, but trust me when I say, you will have one month to live someday.  It is time now to make the investments to make sure those you love are ready to endure the quake and know who their source of stability will be.  Are you making those investments?
