Luke 12

Are you sold out for Jesus?  Luke 12 really brings that question to a head.  Jesus is surrounded by thousands who now know about his ministry.  But His focus in on the disciples.  He doesn’t let the crowd deter Him from what really matters – those who will carry on the ministry after He is gone.  Pay close attention to the teaching Jesus gives here: “Don’t be bluffed into silence or insincerity by the threats of religious bullies. True, they can kill you, but then what can they do? There’s nothing they can do to your soul, your core being. Save your fear for God, who holds your entire life–body and soul–in his hands”.  What does that say to you guys?  Our commitment to Jesus needs to be at a very deep level.  Are you willing to die for your faith?  It is happening TODAY in many places around the world.  And you know what, the church is flourishing in those areas.  You have to be committed to be a believer and follower there.  Sometimes I think we have it way too easy in America.  We can be marginally sold out to Jesus.  We never face real persecution or fear for our lives because we believe.  That would certainly change the stakes for me.  But it is clear here that Jesus expects us to be that sold out to Him and that the real question is not death but who we fear.  It is obvious that our fear needs to be of God, not man.  The worst that can happen is death and as Paul says in his writings “to die is gain”.  Hard to get my arms around that but I know it is true.  Jesus reinforces our need for being sold out with these words: “Stand up for me among the people you meet and the Son of Man will stand up for you before all God’s angels. But if you pretend you don’t know me, do you think I’ll defend you before God’s angels”?  Are you living for Jesus?  Do people know He is your Savior and Lord?  We need to be willing to stand up for the One who gave His all for us.  Our future depends on it!
