Exodus 39

Exodus 39 continues to record the work in creating the vestements, ephod, robe and breastplate for Aaron and the priests who would serve God.  Lots of detail, lots of specifics.  The thing that jumped out at me in this chapter was the fact that they did it all “just as God had commanded Moses”.  No artistic interpretation or change orders to the project.  God told Moses what to have done, and the craftsman did it that way.  They followed the script, stayed inside the lines, and did it how God instructed.  Those words are repeated a half dozen times in this chapter alone.  It also tells us that “they did it all”.  Not picking and choosing which parts of the instruction to follow – they got the entire thing and did it completely God’s way.  What a lesson for us here.  We need to get God’s direction and then do it ALL.  Some will think they don’t really have that clear direction….but folks….we have a very large part of it in the Manual He wrote for our lives.  It is called the Bible.  It contains a huge portion of all the direction we need.  It has specifics.  It tells us the basics of how to live.  The real questions are:

  1. Have you read it?
  2. Are you continuing to read it every day?
  3. Have you asked for understanding?
  4. Are you obeying what He has told us to do?
  5. Are you doing ALL He has told us?

Too often we want to ignore the Word – it couldn’t really apply to me.  Or we want to change what it says to fit our situation.  Or we want to pick and choose what we might obey.  That is not God’s plan or intent.  “Moses saw that they had done all the work and done it exactly as GOD had commanded. Moses blessed them”.  Oh how much God wants to see that we live exactly as He has commanded so He can bless us too.  God is watching.  He does pay attention.  He knows when we walk in obedience to His Word.  It is not a Book of suggestions or ideas.  It is a Book written to guide our lives and to live by.  These are the words we should long for: “well done good and faithful servant”.  It happens with obedience to God’s written and revealed direction for our lives.  Are you doing what God has already told you clearly?  Trust and obey!
