Exodus 38

May 12, 2009

Exodus 38 continues the work of building the Temple and related items.  Today we read of the creation of the Altar, Washbasin and Courtyard.  Bezalel is the man still in charge.  He constructs these things per design along with help from Oholiab.  Realize they are not creating some little model here.  This Altar was 7.5 feet square – that is huge.  The Courtyard was gigantic.  But these craftsmen kept their nose to the grindstone and “made everything that God had commanded Moses”.  Interesting that God didn’t give them the plans directly.  He gave it all to Moses to pass down to his team.  Moses was the front man – he was the chosen leader and he carried the instruction.  And his team followed it to the letter.  Obedience passed on to another – a picture of discipleship.  God instructs one, who instructs another, and the result is obedience.  That is God’s plan for the church and for us.  We are to listen, heed, and then teach another.

In case you think this was some little wimpy project, check out what scripture tells us they used for materials here:

-          Gold used was 1900 pounds

-          Silver used was 6437 pounds

-          Bronze used was 4522 pounds

-          There were offerings from 603,550 men that went into this

Don’t tell me God is not a God of details.  This is a lot of precious metal to be used in creating His place of worship and sacrifice.  And if God is that focused on this – how much more than our life.  Scripture tells us He knows the number of hairs on our head, He knows when a sparrow falls from the sky. God knows and cares.  So the real question is – are we paying attention to Him – because He sure is paying attention to us.  Is God front and center of you thoughts and focus today?  If not, time to make a change.  He loves us and wants our love in return.  He knows what is happening.  He created and designed us.  No surprises there.  Give Him your life today!
