Exodus 37

May 11, 2009

Exodus 37 is focused on the craftsman Bezalel and his creation of the Chest, Table and Lampstands.  God had given Moses clear instruction on how they should be created, and Bezalel is the guy tapped to do the work.  He builds all three very precious pieces with care and cuts no corners in their creation.  I was struck that while some parts of the project were covered with a “veneer of pure gold”, when he created the Chest, “he made a lid of pure gold”.  God did not spare anything in His direction for the creation of this sacred Chest.  As I ponder just what that means, it reminds me of the unlimited resources that God has.  He owns it all, the cattle of a thousand hills or all the gold that exists in this universe.  It is God’s, and to think He skimps on using His resources in creating His plan just doesn’t really line up with scripture.  Our God has no limits, He has no shortage, the economy is not affecting Him.  He in fact is the only constant in this world we live in because it is all His.  And we need to keep that very much at the front of our thinking.  God is our only solid place upon which to stand.  Everything else changes so very quickly.  But God never has, won’t today, and certainly won’t tomorrow either.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  He is not cutting back due to budget cuts in how He loves us.  He is not trimming expenses in how He lavishes His goodness upon us.  God is unaffected by the media and their continual negativity about how life is.  Because He owns all and controls all.  Our God reigns!

As the chapter ends it mentions that Bezalel “used a seventy five pound brick of pure gold to make the Lampstand and its accessories”.  Wow – that is a serious lampstand.  Did a quick check on what that would mean in today’s world – 75 pounds of gold is a bit over $1M today.  Don’t tell me God is without resources and can’t deal with the bank crisis.  Don’t tell me He is limited.  God has plenty of resources for today and eternity.  He absolutely wants us to take care of them as stewards, but God is not short.  And God does care about how we live, and how we care for what He entrusts us, and He also loves quality and great workmanship.  He is a God of perfection and His detail and instruction here show us that clearly!  Are you trusting God with your future?  Are you walking with God in faith and obedience?  He is in control.  He is not running out of resources.  Our God reigns!
