Exodus 29 talks about the ordination of Aaron and the boys as priests. Again God gives detailed, very detailed instructions for “consecrating them”. It is a big deal with many fine details laid out for the seven day process. They will “ordain” Aaron and the others who will serve God in the Temple. There are a number of offerings called out here: “Absolution-Offering….Whole-Burnt-Offering….Wave-Offering….Peace-Offerings…..Grain-Offering….Drink-Offering”. A pretty long list of things God expected and demanded and very detailed instructions on how each should be done. I was intrigued by the detail that after the Whole-Burnt-Offering, they were to take “some of the blood and rub it on Aaron’s right earlobe….thumb of his right hand….big toe on their right feet”. That is getting down to the fine points isn’t it. Wow – God is a God of details. So this ordination and consecration of those who will serve as priests is important. God tells them to do it “exactly as I’ve commanded you….seven days”. It is really about obedience. Isn’t that a surprise? God is pretty well set on that as the key test.
But it goes on as God tells them how to live “each and every day”. They are to sacrifice a lamb each morning and each evening EVERY day. Did you get that? Every day….no exceptions….no excuses. Just do it. God sets the expectation and requirement. But He also tells them that at the “Tent of Meeting…I’ll meet you….I’ll speak with you”. It is a key to connecting with God. We are to be in His presence. He tells us the Temple is “made holy by my Glory”. God’s presence makes it holy. But He also gives these two promises: “I’ll move in and live with the Israelites….I am God, your God”. Now that makes it all worthwhile doesn’t it. God promises to dwell with them and be their God. Know what? He wants to do that in your life too. God wants to be your God. He wants an intimate relationship with you through Jesus Christ. He wants to have you walk in obedience to His Word. He wants to be your God. Will you let Him? Will you walk with Him?
