Day three talks about time. Our most precious resource – our most valuable commodity. Yet we don’t do a very good job taking care of it. At least I don’t. The book talks about moving to the country and buying a pig farm and raising pigs if you want to slow down life a bit. I resemble that quite a bit actually. And when I was doing pig farming I never noticed it really slowed down life much either. He also suggests a wife with 14 or 15 kids too. Now that would do it for me. I probably wouldn’t make 30 days under those circumstances. 30 hours would probably be more like it. One thing we have definitely decided is that there is little doubt why God gives kids to young people. We love to be able to see them, spoil them and send them home. So what about our time? We have 168 hours each week. You have heard me talk about that over and over. Who cares? You need to.
We need to look at how we spend our time. Do an analysis of where the hours go. I know you will be surprised at how little of those 168 hours you spend on the things you say are important to you. I encourage you to do that little project – write down how you use your time for one week. Yes there will be some abnormalities based on your schedule any given week – but it will give you the drift. Now is the time to consider what God wants to do through your life and the legacy you want to leave behind. If you don’t plan for it, there still is a legacy, it just won’t be the one you intend. The 80/20 principle really applies to our use of time. We get 80% of pretty much everything from the 20% we give it. Joy, our relationships, results…I can hear you saying – not me – baloney. It is that way for all of us. Think how much we could improve if we used the other 80% as effectively as we do the 20%. We could revolutionize our life and the bubble we influence. If you don’t do anything else related to this 30 day experiment, I hope you will take time to do this little project – write down your time – write down your priorities – and tell me how well they align. I know they don’t – so tell me what you are going to do to fix it. That is what accountability is all about. If you don’t’ tell someone you won’t be nearly as likely to do it. Let’s change how we spend our time folks. Let’s get on God’s bandwagon and live life the way Jesus intended when He said He came that we might have it in all its “fullness”.
Don’t feel very full right now? Remember He also told us to “cast all our cares upon Him”….”His yoke is easy and His burden is light”. We have the promises. He has given us the direction. We just need to live that way. Don’t wait til someday. Start today!
