Isaiah writes in chapter 14 about the people from Babylon and their demise. They had life by the tail. They had defeated everyone around and through they were pretty big stuff. Scripture records a number of things they said. Everyone one started with “I’ll…”. Do you see it coming? They put self on the throne and actually thought they were in charge. It worked for them for a while. They were able to conquer peoples and take over nations. They were sitting fat and happy but forgot one thing. God actually is in charge. Isaiah records the transition from the “I’ll” of the Babylonians to the “I will” of God. Guess who wins. God says “Exactly as I planned, it will happen. Following my blueprints, it will take shape”. Did you catch that? The king of Babylon and his people thought they had it under control. I’ll do this, and I’ll do that. It was all about ME from their point of view. Let me give you a clue. It is all about GOD and we are part of HIS plan and need to keep that first and foremost in our mind.
Does God care about me and what I think? Absolutely. Positively. After all He sent His only Son to this earth because He loved us. He sacrificed the greatest thing possible because He wants us to be able to spend eternity with Him. But that doesn’t mean we are in control, or will get our way, or decide what is going to happen. I know at times I actually convince myself that the world revolves around me. What a joke that thought is. Just like the Babylonians, I buy into the world’s hype that I can have it my way, or that it really doesn’t matter what I do. Baloney – it matters much – and it matters to God. How we live is important. What we do is very important. But God is in control. We live in His world and it is His blueprints that will take shape. The opportunity we have is to read the construction manual and see the blueprints and then line up with those things. That is where the beauty of life can be. When we live God’s way in God’s world, we experience real joy. Remember – it is not about me, or you. Life is about how we align with God!
