Isaiah 11 talks about the coming Messiah and the Spirit and gives us some insight into what the role of the Spirit is. Check out this list of things the Spirit will do:
- life-giving
- brings wisdom
- brings understanding
- gives direction
- builds strength
- instills knowledge
- instills the Fear-of-GOD
The chapter is rally all about Jesus and the impact he will have. The one thing that comes out clear to me is that He will cause change – unnatural and drastic change. Scripture tells us that:
- wolf will romp with the lamb
- the leopard sleep with the kid
- Calf and lion will eat from the same trough
- Cow and bear will graze the same pasture
- calves and cubs grow up together
- lion eat straw like the ox
- nursing child will crawl over rattlesnake dens
How much change has Jesus caused in your life? He didn’t come to be part of the establishment or leave things status quo. Not in my life or yours. He came to change us – to revolutionalize the way we live. He came to make us new creatures focused on living a life pleasing to God. He came to make us a peculiar people. Jesus is about changing lives – no matter where we are – He can change us to be the kind of person God uses. But we have to let Him. We have to get aligned with Him and live that way. Thank God that He sent Jesus to save us, but also to change us.
