Isaiah 9

Isaiah 9 talks about Jesus and the prophecy of His life, and also gives a vivid picture of God’s response to the “proud and arrogant bunch” that were living in Israel at the time.  I love how Scripture talks about our Savior.  In this chapter we are given a list of names.  It tells us “His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness”.  How to you address our Savior?  This gift God has given us to take us to eternity?  What a blessing it is to know Jesus personally as Savior and Lord.  He is amazing, strong, eternal and whole….He is all we need for any situation.  We need to meditate on these names, we need to pray over the power of His names, we need to realize the blessing God has given us through His Son.

But Scripture goes further and tells us what Jesus will do when He comes.  The impact of His life on this world has been and will be powerful.  Check out what Scripture tells us:  His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings. He’ll rule from the historic David throne over that promised kingdom. He’ll put that kingdom on a firm footing and keep it going with fair dealing and right living, beginning now and lasting always”.  Jesus was sent to this world to change things.  He came to be in control and bring people into right relationship with God.  The verses tell us that He is the authority and it began then and will last forever.  It is not a question…it is a fact.  Jesus is not limited.  He will rule.  He has and does and will.  We need to remember that every moment.  We serve a ruling Savior.  He is in control today.  The names He is called don’t reflect the power and authority we might expect – like boss or king or controller.  Jesus rules with love.  He is a very reflection of the very nature of God and God is love.  We are so blessed by that love and God’s provision for us through His Son.
