Today we continue in chapter 12. Ezekiel is given God’s direction to pack up and leave town, very publicly, as an exile being chased away. It is a symbol of what is to come for the people. Why will it occur? Scripture tells us they had “eyes but don’t see a thing, they have ears but don’t hear a thing”. Some days that probably describes me. I may see things moving around me with my peripheral vision, I might hear things happening all over but really not see or hear anything at a level that gets my attention. That is the state of how many life today. We just aren’t really focused and engaged. Ezekiel’s message from God was that the people would be scattered, most killed, and life was going to end as they knew it. Why? God says so “they will realize that I am God”. He was going to get their attention. Says it twice to Ezekiel in this chapter alone. We need to recognize that God is who He says and we need to get tuned in to Him. There was a bunch of false teaching going on that God wasn’t going to do anything. Why worry, it isn’t happening and won’t in your lifetime. But the chapter ends with God’s truth being given as clearly as possible: “Nothing of what I say is on hold. What I say happens”. Count on it, bank on it – if God says it, it is!
