Esther 4

Moredecai is obviously very torn up by the announcement that all the Jews would be killed.  He puts on sackcloth and comes to the King’s Gate to mourn.  Esther’s assistants come and tell her the situation.  She sends her right hand person to get the info from Mordecai.  When Hathach comes to Mordecai, scripture tells us he did these three things.  I find this important to consider:

1. He told him everything

2. He told him the exact amount of money … to finance the massacre

3. He gave him a copy of the bulletin

Who cares?  This really shows that Mordecai approached the situation with the facts in hand.  He didn’t make broad sweeping statements of how bad it would be.  He didn’t exaggerate or expand the truth.  He had his act together and provided the exact details of the situation so Hathach could carry it back to Esther.  How often do people come to you and have things completely blown out of proportion?  Happens to me all the time.  I spend a lot of time wading through the noise to get to the truth.  That is not the case here.  Mordecai has the facts boiled down and presents them clearly.  Somehow I think that is how God wants us to approach him too.  He doesn’t need our commentary or exaggeration of things – He already knows.  He wants us to humbly approach Him in prayer and lay it at His feet.  Do you pray like that?  Or is it a bunch of whining and stretching of the truth?  Sometimes I approach Him like I don’t think He has a clue what I am facing.  How silly is that?  He knows all and wants me to come with a surrendered heart – not a bunch of gobbledegook (is that a word?)  Seek Him in truth.  Mordecai sets a good example here!
