Hezekiah was a good king. He has followed God and now has a boil that is going to take his life. Isaiah is called in so Hezekiah can ask if he is going to die and the news is that yes – this will kill him. As Isaiah is leaving, Hezekiah prays. He tells God these things:
- Remember who I am
- Remember what I’ve done
- I have lived an honest life
- My heart’s been true and steady
- I’ve lived to please you
- I’ve lived for your approval
Isaiah has left and God stops him right in his tracks and sends him back to deliver Hezekiah this news. Three things God gives him in answer to his prayers:
- 15 years added to his life
- Saving from the king of Assyria
- Covering the city with His shield
Hezekiah sought God even when the prophet Isaiah told him that his life was going to be over. He didn’t just roll over and get ready to die. He knew he had more to do. He sought God and persisted. He calls out the foundation he has lived his life on. Hezekiah has lived a good life. He was focused on serving and living life in a what that pleased God. He did not let sin control his life. (for the benefit of those in my Sunday night small group). He CHOSE NOT TO SIN by making decisions that gave him right status in God’s eyes. Hezekiah realized his life choices matter. And because of his faithful living, when he came before God either in time of war or even death, God responds. He had a RELATIONSHIP with the Father and God listened and acted on his behalf. We serve the same God men. He has the same desire from us. To live life in a way that pleases him and to have relationship with Him every day. If we do that, we can get the same results that Hezekiah did. God is still in the prayer and miracle business. He still listens and acts!
